Your (physical disabilities) Autumn Decorations
By Gail Logan
Autumn is the time of year in which you can literally smell the changes. Leaves are burning, peanuts are roasting, and most people are just beginning to fill a hint of a chill in the air. More than smelling the changes that are coming you can see them. Leaves begin to take on brilliant hues and the colors are spectacular to watch and witness. This is the time of year that thoughts begin to turn to football, hiking, and the upcoming holidays (for there are quite a few on the horizon).
Fall contains two primary holidays for many people. Those include Halloween and Thanksgiving. Keep these holidays in mind when planning your primary fall home decorating scheme and make small adjustments in order to accommodate the holidays. Personally, I love the colors associated with autumn. The yellows, shades of gold, orange, and brown are favorites for my decorating taste. I always regret a little that this time of year is often overshadowed by Christmas as it approaches and the expectations of others that I decorate for Christmas almost immediately after celebrating Thanksgiving.
For those who lack inspiration when it comes to home decorating for fall, keep the colors mentioned above in mind. One great theme to incorporate into the decorating process would be the theme of leaves. Leaves falling from the trees are one of the most common associations with this time of year and it is a great look to incorporate into your home. You can even find leaf garlands in fall shades if you are inclined to look for them. Leaves can also be incorporated into lovely centerpieces and floral arrangements to hallmark the season.
Harvest is another common association with autumn. This is also rather easy to incorporate into most home decorating designs. Gourds make an excellent accent piece for this time of year and you can find real ones in almost any vegetable market along with many realistic imitation gourds. These can be used, much like or along with leaves, as part of centerpieces, in floral arrangements, in tabletop decorations, and even to hold place cards for large gatherings. They are incredibly versatile as well as colorful and make a great addition to any autumn home decorating venture.
Pumpkins are essentially gourds but they have a special place all their own in the fall home decorating scheme. Pumpkins have a special association with both Halloween and Thanksgiving (pumpkin pie anyone) and should not be overlooked as an important tool for decoration. In addition they are just bright, colorful, and cheerful to have around the house. To avoid the stench of rotting pumpkins simply avoid carving them if you intend to keep them around for a little while. Those that are carved should be placed outside and only carved within days of the ‘big day’.
A great centerpiece idea in general for fall would include a large bowl, in outstanding fall colors such as a burnt orange or a shade of gold. For the first part of autumn you can fill the centerpiece with candies that are wrapped in fall colors. This is ideal for family munchies as well as trick or treaters that may find their way to your door on Halloween. Once this holiday has ended you can fill the bowl with colorful leaves and gourds to complete the look. This should carry you through Thanksgiving when it is time to begin thinking about Christmas decorations and wintertime rather than fall.
Whether you adore fall like I do or dread its appearance each year for whatever reason there is little denying that fall is ripe with decorating ideas and ideals. Take the time to look around your local craft stores and see where inspiration strikes. It is never too early or too late in the year to begin thinking about what you are going to do for your home decorating plan in the seasons to come.

How do men handle social status?
By Dr. Jennifer Lagrotte, DMFT,
Life and its expectations; or rather, our social expectations of us. Whether we realize it or not, even in this day and age, we are raised with certain ideas about what our most basic purpose is going to be in life. It is natural, as similar roles have been focused on for as long as humans have walked to earth, for girls to be seen as future wives and mothers and boys to be future fathers and providers for the family. While there have been some exceptions in the past, it has only been within the last little while that women are starting to break their traditional roles and do more on their own. Unfortunately, this can leave men out in the cold wondering where their purpose begins in life.
While expectations and views are changing drastically in the western world, the basic views still, somewhat, exist. Men, naturally, are the providers and feel that they have to be able to look after their family; at least the ones who decide to take on the role as a husband and/or a father. While nature’s expectations of them still ring out loud and clear, society’s expectations can have quite the pull as well. It has always been that the more money one makes, the more possessions they have and the better social standing they have, the better appearance they have in their society. The better their appearance and standing, the better off the family tends to be. Unfortunately, a man can lose sight of what really matters to him as he works day and night to better himself and his family based on what society dictates. It is often a regret that many men have when they look back on their life and realize that they were too busy with work to spend time with their children. Some men do not even get the chance to have any children, because they have never given the time for a strong relationship with a woman that would last long enough. Then, there are men who had made the decision to commit to a relationship, but then later forgot about taking the time to keep in touch or build on that relationship because work always filled their mind first.
Waiting until one is forty before really focusing on what one actually deems as important to them in life, beyond all the material things, is too long. By then, the damage may be irreparable. However, if one takes the time to step back, look at their life and realize what they may be missing, then it is possible that relationships can be mended and changes can be made in order to live life the way it was meant to be. Living life for what is important to one in their heart is often more rewarding than one’s life where they have achieved all the material goals but have no one to share or enjoy it with. For those worried about losing their path in life, or who feel that they may be losing focus, seeking the advice of an online counselor or online therapist could be very helpful. Online therapy can help guide one in altering their life and or their views when determining what it is that they really want out of life. Speaking with an online counselor can also help one see if they need to focus more on their personal relationships with a significant other and/or any children involved within that relationship. It is well and good to fulfill one’s natural purpose in life, but when it comes to ensuring that the heart gets what it needs, sometimes some extra care needs to be taken so that one does not look back on their past with a heavy feeling of regret.

This Is The Year Of The E Textbook
By Liz Suade
Many folks, Oprah being one of them are talking about digital readers these days. The Fall of 2009 seems to be the semester that kicks off the common adoption of ebook texts. The Kindle DX is Amazons newest ebook reader and it has lots of interesting features. The DX is intended straight at the e textbook buyers. The larger screen and higher resolution will augment the browsing of e textbooks. It can automatically adust from landscape to portrait which is ideal for reading graphs and charts or even PDF files. Plus it has native PDF support. In fact, this Fall, Amazon is even having a test test program, using Kindle e textbooks, at 6 college campuses. They are giving out about 50 Kindle DX’s at each university and then getting comments to improve the pilot program. The DX comes with an broad e textbook catalog and will be popular with more than just the test students.
There are other ebook readers on the horizon. The amount of e textbook stores on the World Wide Web is increasing at a rapid pace.. A perfect e textbook store is iChapters.. They offer a unique spin on e textbooks. With iChapters you don’t have to download the complete book.
They had a new promotional contest where lucky students could win free textbooks just for signing up.. The e textbook is not going away.. Another big contender in the segment is CourseSmart. They offer a subscription service for every title. You don’t in fact own the book but you have access the whole school year. Save a little space on that book shelf.. Even throughout the first day of class.
Not to be outdone by the additional e textbook retailers is eCampus they are an well-known online merchant. And have no plans of missing the e textbook ship.. They also have an instinctive and easy to steer website.
Public schools boast no plans of being left out.. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced the digital textbook initiative in California this last June. This initiative will implement ebook textbooks for mathematics and science at a Southern California High Campus and then it will stage out to other schools, grades, and subjects.
This should realize a savings of millions for every year.. Soon other States will want to save in educational costs as well.. Digital texts makes updating easy and cheap. This Autumn is really the beginning of the e textbook innovation. But, I have a feeling in the years to come, digital books will be as universal in schools as using a computer.
