Obama grants: high returns through scholarships

By Fred Jackson

If someone had to ask you to explain the Obama grant, could you? Many are uncertain as to what it means exactly. Nevertheless the government under the much admired Obama administration is working hard to help working mothers in returning to college. There are many existing government benefits that are being given attention that in truth are just reworked federal programs such as ones which help to assist working mothers to attend college. The Pell grants a huge asset is making many potential student moms pay attention like never before.

One of long term and common forms of financial aid which can be obtained through the government particularly for college is known as the Federal Pell grant. One huge advantage of the Pell grant is that there is no repayment required unlike a typical loan making it extremely attractive to any students in need of aid. The Pell grant has been formed to be awarded to those who wish to attain an undergraduate degree. It must be noted that students with a professional degree or a bachelor’s will not be awarded such a grant. These two characteristics are ideal for single, working mothers, which is the cause of all the excitement over the Scholarships for Moms program. President Obama as well as his administration is encouraging mothers to attend college through the funds which have been made available through the Pell grants although there is no specific program given.

In addition to being a monetary gift rather than a loan, Pell grants don’t place restrictions on other sources of financial aid that you can receive. Aid from other federal programs as well as private, non-federal institutions can be applied to cover education costs. The 1st of July 2009 begins the start of the award year which will come to an end on the 30th June 2010 with the maximum being paid out through the Pell grant of $5,350.00. So even though this amount will most likely not cover all your college costs, you can still apply for other resources to supplement your federal Pell grant aid. The federal Pell grant has a further advantage i n that it does not limit you to its use once paid out. Educational costs may also include housing, books, laptops and housing as acceptable expenses.

Scholarships for Moms has become popu lar because the Obama administration’s focus on education has highlighted the benefits of the Pell grant program. There are many advantages to such a federal program and is greatly beneficial to single, working mothers who wish to earn a degree. Thankfully many are beginning to realize that family obligations or financial needs does not mean that college is no longer an option.

The Obama grant given through the Pell grant program has assisted in encouraging many to enroll into college. For all working mothers this is a definite plus. There is certainly great encouragement for all single mothers with a full-time job by the current administration to obtain a degree by going to college. The current administration is heartily cheering for single, full-time working mothers to apply for college and earn a degree. Why not make your dreams a reality?
