By jemima hudson
I suppose e-books are terrific. They are simple. Literally, there is no physical product, and nothing bulky to carry around. The e-book itself is just a digitally formatted version of a print book. You can pack a thousand or a lot of e-books into a little laptop laptop or a reading device no larger in size than thick magazine like Vainness Truthful or Atlantic Monthly.
But are e-books green? In an exceedingly word: absolutely. For my part, they are the greenest approach to read.
Since printing and binding a traditional book uses paper, ink, and alternative materials and creates an estimated 3 kilograms (regarding 6.half-dozen lbs.) of greenhouse gas emissions, e-books are boldly green. They come in a very digital format-simply electrons and code. E-Books don’t need traditional transportation and delivery either-they are downloaded directly onto your pc or e-book reader. It is tough to accurately compare with the carbon footprint of reading digital books, but irrespective of how one tries to calculate it, reading on screen is abundant greener than reading on paper since regarding seventy per cent of the emissions derived from books derive from simply the paper they’re printed on. About the sole thing comparable in greenness would be shopping for used books or checking books out at the library, as this also avoids the expense and materials of manufacturing new copies.
At about 3 per cent of this book market, e-books are solely starting to make their impact. Their accelerating popularity has created a near frenzy among each the producers of e-books and therefore the developers of electronic devices for downloading and reading them.
Another benefit to e-books is that they price less than ancient books. Pricing has been around 10 bucks for a newly printed book, compared to about twice that much for a traditional print version.
You’ll use your laptop or a zealous E-Book Reader to download and browse these wonderful digital inventions, and you have got some options. Four of the most common are listed below.
Amazon Kindle a pair of: This is often one amongst the earliest and best-known devices, with a massive number of accessible titles. The Kindle a pair of is sold by Amazon, and will be purchased-naturally-on line. The essential version is $259; the Kindle DX features a larger screen and more capacity and costs $489.
Sony Reader Digital Book PRS-600BC: The Sony entry is cherish the Kindle Basic. It prices concerning $300.
The iPad: This can be the new entry from Apple, of course. The iPad sports the same old cool design and features, together with the Apple coolness factor. It value a small amount a lot of, beginning at $499, however contains additional features.
ASUS DR-900: Pre-announced and just being readied for launch as of this writing (March 2010). Designed to compete with the Kindle, however with a larger screen than the fundamental version and “additional features” in keeping with the manufacturer. Price still to be announced.
Living a greener lifestyle includes thinking inexperienced even when you would like to buy and browse a book. By buying e-books you may be looking greener and living a greener lifestyle. And there’s another not-to-be-overlooked bonus: you’ll be saving money as well.

Obama Grants for Mothers: Is College in Your Future?
By Fred Jackson
Education is always an important key to a good future. Even before he became President, Barack Obama spoke about the need to make education a priority. Grants and scholarships are just the beginning of efforts to try to make over higher education.
One familiar part of the economic meltdown is the rise in college tuition and other costs. Scholarship packages rarely cover the full amount for tuition, books and housing. Many potential students suffer and are unable to afford to go to college. A large number of these people are working mothers. Helping single mothers get an education helps their families and future employers. Creating college grants for moms is one way the President is dealing with this issue. There is no difference between Federal Pell Grants and Obama grants. The name “Obama grants” came as a result of the President’s emphasis on educating moms. With these grants, college-bound students can receive over $5,000 to pay for school. Before Pell grants maxed out at about $4,000. The scholarship money covers practically all school-related expenses.
Single moms should also consider the American Opportunity Tax Credit. This tax credit makes a way for students to write off the first $4,000 of their education costs. At less expensive schools in particular this is a big credit. Since many single working mothers have low incomes, these programs are a major help. There are plenty of options on where, when and what a student can study. With a few less money worries, more single mothers can attend college.
Increasing educational opportunity and performance is undoubtedly one of the President’s goals. With some changes to the lending system, many graduate and undergraduate loans will be less costly. There is more government emphasis on properly preparing students for their future at all levels of education. Another goal is to encourage more students to attend community colleges. At a community college students can gain important knowledge as well as save money.
In his Reclaiming the American Dream speech in 2007, Obama said, “We need to put a college education within reach of every American. That’s the best investment we can make in our future.” With the measures he has taken to this point, the President has demonstrated he means his words. The mission to educate all Americans is certainly helped by providing scholarships for mothers. Traditional and non-traditional students alike have numerous opportunities to put their education first.
